Martin Cherry, Associate Pastor
Martin Cherry has served Flatonia Baptist Church as Associate Pastor/Minister of Music since September of 2014, although he and his family had been a part of the church family for a couple of years before that. Martin has deep roots in Fayette County as his family has been ranching in the Muldoon area for over 100 years.
At FBC, Martin enjoys working with our choir and musicians to plan and lead worship services each week. He has also been blessed with the opportunity to facilitate one of our Wednesday Night Bible Study groups and, along with his wife Lora, leads our Young(ish) Adult Sunday School class. Martin is active in serving our community, being an active member and past president of the Flatonia Rotary Club and serving as a substitute teacher on occasion at Flatonia High School.
Martin has been active in ministry for about 25 years and has previously served as Minister of Music (and other positions) in several churches across south Texas. He was licensed to the ministry as a college student in 1999 and ordained while a full-time Minister of Music in 2008. In addition to his work with our church, Martin serves as the director of the South Texas chapter of the Singing Men of Texas, which is a choir made up of worship leaders and church musicians from across the South Texas region.
Martin and Lora first moved to our area in 2010 after several years serving a church in San Antonio. Currently, Lora is a teacher at La Grange High School where she teaches Honors and AP Chemistry. Together they have two children, Caroline and Mitchell, as well as two dogs, Gustav and Rooster, and a cat, Max.
